Why?
Homelessness profoundly affects the vitality and well-being of our entire community. We can change how we address it, and even end it.
What's been achieved
I am proud to have led the charge to create our Homelessness Solutions Task Force and implementation of its Strategic Action Plan. Our Wellness Center is part of that plan and is slated to open in May 2023. The campus will be the first of its kind in the county. Using a housing-first approach, approximately 170 residents will receive on-site wraparound services to meet their unique needs. Also on site will be a medical clinic. The goal of this facility is to help our homeless stabilize their lives through job training, education, and more while allowing us to pursue the balance between enforcement and services.
What's coming next
I’ll continue working with state legislators to bring in more resources, such as the $28 million Homekey Grant used for the Wellness Center, for the homeless and begin enforcing our anti-camping laws.
